When is the ride? The 2008 TdCR will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009. How long is the ride? This year there will be four routes: 15, 25, 50, and 100 miles. The 15- and 25-miles routes are mostly flat, and the 50- and 100-mile rides have a few hills. Volunteer ride leaders are available to guide less-experienced riders on the shorter routes. What is the cost? The advanced registration rate of $20 is available until August 15. Individual registrations are $25. Families may register at the family rate of $50, and receive two t-shirts (for those registering before August 15). Tandem teams may register at the individual rate of $25 and receive one t-shirt. A group rate of $15 per person is available for groups of 10 or more. These registrations must be submitted in one envelope with one check to pay for the entire group. (This is a great way to encourage youth groups, scout troops, and others to participate. Last year we had a spinning class from a local health club participate.) How do I register? Individuals may register on-line through Active.com at http://www.active.com/page/Event_Details.htm?event_id=1726033&assetId=F8AD1599-3C19-4881-8C68-AD0E65E106AC Please be aware that there is a small fee for using the Active.com service. You can also download a pdf registration form from the main page and mail that in to the church at 4703 N. 50 W., West Lafayette, IN 47906. Can I register on the day of the event? Yes, but we can’t guarantee that you’ll receive a t-shirt if you register after Aug. 15. What do I need to bring? Please note that bicycle helmets are required. You will not be allowed to participate in the ride without a helmet. You should also make sure that your bicycle is in good shape mechanically and that your tires are inflated to the proper pressure. (If you’re not sure how to do this there will be people at the beginning of the ride to assist you.) Other than a helmet most of your needs for the day will be provided. We will have roving support vehicles to assist with flat tires and SAG stops along the route to provide refreshments. What is provided? The ride features well-marked routes, maps, fun rest stops with refreshments, roving SAG vehicles, and, of course, a post-ride lunch and entertainment. Participants who register before Aug. 15 also receive a t-shirt. What are the routes like? Are the rides on public roads? Yes, the routes are on lightly traveled public roads. The volunteers who plan the routes take care to select smooth roads with little traffic, and for the shorter routes we try to avoid significant hills. The routes are marked with road markings (dan henrys) and maps are available at the start. Where does the money go? Most of the funds for the ride are simply used to pay for the event. St. Andrew United Methodist considers this a fun way to contribute to the community and to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Profits from the ride benefit the Crossroads Youth and Young Adult Ministry, a ministry of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, West Lafayette. This is an active youth ministry with many programs for junior high-, high school-, and college-aged students in the Lafayette area. The students who participate in the Crossroads programs are directly involved in putting on the Tour de Crossroads and serving as volunteers on the day of the event. The Tour de Crossroads is also an Indiana Bicycle Coalition funding ride to help support and promote cycling in our state. Are there showers? Yes, there are showers and restrooms at the church.
