What is O.P.E.N.?

I was asked to put together a Weekly Meditation piece for this website largely using Scripture, but also occasional quotes from books and people and my own insights. This is NOT a Bible Study, so I will not systematically explore a particular topic or book. When I use Scripture, unless otherwise noted, I will be using the NIV Version.

My self-instructions were: "Keep it brief. Make a point."  I'm pretty sure I can do the first; you'll be the judge of the latter.

Here's the "Key" to using this segment most effectively:

O - Openness Don't begin your time in the Word by thinking you already have all the answers. Be open to what God has to tell you.
P - Prayer Always begin a session in the Word - any session in the Word - with Prayer.
E - Expectation Always expect to receive something from your Time spent in the Word. It might be a new insight. It might be an answer to a problem you have been dealing with. It might be God leading you through or to a challenge He wants to help you with.
N - Notice Pay attention to places in your life where the Word is especially helpful and meaningful. When we find real answers in God's Word, it helps us understand that God's Word is alive and still providing answers, even thousands of years after it was written!
