There are many ways to give back as we approach Advent. Here at St Andrew we are finding ways to make a difference. There are many options locally with Jubilee Christmas, the Christmas market, and volunteering options. Globally, we are connected to perhaps the finest relief organization on the planet - UMCOR. And with #Giving Tuesday upon us, there are many ways to give back through UM Missions and UMCOR.
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) offers a global presence to reduce human suffering. Often other agencies will funnel their aid through UMCOR as 100% of donations go towards the designated project. This is possible because the people of the United Methodist Churches foot the bill for all overhead and then some through congregations such as ours.
There is much to think about, but it is what our hearts break for which captivate our attention. We remember the plight in Puerto Rico and chaos of the 2017 Hurricane season. We remember the record number of Refugees displaced around the world. We remember the Sierra Leone mudslide and the many international disasters which have occurred this year.
If your heart is breaking for someone or some people around the world, please pray and consider how your presence could be offered. If you are like most of us and can only offer financial assistance from afar, feel free to give through St Andrew or go directly to UMCOR's website and the many ministries there. If you still wish to do more, please come in and share your passion so we can come alongside and be present however God directs us.
