The Black Church Video and Discussion Group
Every Saturday, from 02/05/2022 to 03/05/2022, 10am - Noon
Leader: Marshall Martin
Dr. Marshall Martin will lead a five-week series to view and discuss this PBS documentary on Saturday, February 5, and continue through March 5. The group will meet in-person from 10 a.m. to noon in the Intersection and follow the St. Andrew Covid guidelines. The focus of the discussion will be based on viewing together various segments of the documentary.
The Black Church has been central to faith, spiritual sustenance, and the struggle of American society during our darkest moments from slavery to Jim Crow to civil rights to Black Lives Matter. Join the conversation about the historic and future role of the Black Church in our American society, and the implications for the mission of St. Andrew.
Each session is a stand-alone topic, e.g., pre-civil war, civil war, reconstruction and Jim Crow, early 20th Century, and finally civil rights and Black Lives Matter. The final session on March 5 will be a panel of two African American local church leaders—-Drs. Carolyn Johnson and Shalamar Armstrong.
