This space has its roots in the history of how this congregation came to be - a group of Jesus followers inviting others to come and see Christ as well. Once a month, we will bring forth a devotional from years gone by. Today we re-member (put together again in our minds) from the Lenten Devotional of 1979 - Friday, March 9 to be precise:
Read Matthew 9
As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
"Follow me," Jesus' command is followed by, "I will make you..." His promise. When you doubt your own ability to follow Christ, remember Simon, Andrew, James and John. It would seem few people have been less prepared for the jobs ahead: preaching, evangelism, and church building. But after being close to Jesus and receiving His love and teachings, they were almost ready for spectacular service. The Crucifixion, Resurrection, and finally, Pentecost molded these disciples and gave them an unshakeable faith in a living Savior, one who guided them through the rest of their lives.
