Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, St. Andrew Family!

I pray that whether you are spending today in the kitchen, on the couch, on the road, in a different state, or working; whether you are happy or joyous or sad or scared; whether the people around you provide comfort or discomfort, happiness or nervousness…I pray you take a moment, maybe a few, to thank our amazing Heavenly Father for the gifts in your life. Sometimes its easy to count the things we’re thankful for: a new baby, family around the table, heat , electricity, a car to drive and see loved ones, cell phone reception, sweaters, and food. But, sometimes, as the anxiousness and stress of the holidays grow - it’s just not that simple.

So, here’s a list of “thankfuls” I think we can all agree on:

I am thankful for blue skies on cold days; for changing leaves because it means our world is still turning. I am thankful for my church family and that at least one day a week I have a warm, comfortable place to go where I know that I am loved. I am thankful  I woke up today. I am thankful for the Gospel.  I am thankful for a heart which beats and a brain that thinks. I am thankful for farmers who grow and harvest our food. I am thankful for pens and paper to jot things down. I am thankful for Jesus’ sacrifice.

Even when we’re not feeling it, we do have things to be thankful for because of Jesus. We can be thankful because, as it says in Psalm 23 :

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in a path of righteousness for his names’ sake.

The Lord restores our soul, and we have that to be thankful for today and every day.

Happy Thanksgiving, friends, I hope you find lots to be thankful for this year.
