Come & See

Surprise!

Written by St Andrew on . Updated

Have you ever been surprised by something unexpected?  We all have had a moment when we stopped dead in our tracks and wondered at the amazing timing of events?  Most likely you thought of it as good luck or a coincidence.  Life certainly has these moments and they often make us smile or say “wow”.

Every year as we prepared to leave for Florida, I promised myself to spend my free time writing.  I could spend many hours writing, but in the past, often stymied as to what I should write.  I would wait for God to give me a nudge, wanting to please Him.  Probably 10 years ago, after several weeks of not writing anything, I was in my same old rut; willing, yet uninspired.

With too much time on my hands, I agreed to go with my sister-in-law to her book club.  As we gathered, a lady walked through the door.  I felt an instant connection that I cannot even explain.  She had yet to speak and yet her body language spoke volumes.  I made sure I sat next to her and listened carefully to what she had to say, seeing immediately that as a retired English teacher, she loved books, loved stories, loved to write!

Through casual conversation I soon discovered that she taught a memoir writing class.  I came alive with questions and she invited me to attend her class. J I would continue to attend her class every winter for 4 years, plunking out a story every week!  I never lost the warm desire to know her more.  To learn what she had to share!

This was a blessing from God on so many levels.  Soon I was learning faster than I could type.  I needed subjects.  God showed me that the possibilities were endless.  I was lonely.  He provided an amazing connection with like-thinking friends.  I needed an outlet for writing.  He gave me the class.  I reconnected with extended family by sending out newly created stories.  A wonderful bonus I had never conceived.

Did I just happen to meet this lady or was it orchestrated by God?  You are free to decide.  I know He blessed me!   The bible tells us that it is his desire to pour out blessings on those who love Him.  He cares for us in every way.  I love to contemplate Him smiling with pleasure when He surprises us.

I invite you, with me, to get more in tune with God and see unanticipated happenings as the blessings they are.  The next time you are delighted and surprised with a circumstance or a desire fulfilled, remember the author of life is blessing you and loving you.   Love Him right back and give Him the praise, honor and glory.

Psalm 111 : 2-4

Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them.  Glorious and majestic are His deeds, and His righteousness endures forever. He has caused His wonders to be remembered; The Lord is gracious and compassionate.
