Janée Reflects on Her Trip to Africa

In July, the church prayed as I departed the States to head across the world to Zimbabwe. I am happy to share that my experience this time around was even better than before. I was able to reunite with old friends, make new ones, and explore Zimbabwe on a whole new level. Our  team embraced the whole experience and each of us were uplifted, inspired, and filled with hope. I know I sure was! Zimbabwe is rich in so many ways. One of the best experiences was getting to worship with a little church in the Harare Central District called Binda. This church was about 60 persons strong and their church was just a few sticks and a tarp. Despite not having a permanent building, the church still worshiped vibrantly, full of pride and passion. I wish I could share with you the dancing, the singing, and joy we all shared as we worshiped together one Sunday morning. I will never forget how one elderly member of the church pulled me up in the middle of singing to dance with her.

Our journey was rich in home stays (being hosted individually in African homes), visits to historic sites, and having young Africans travel with us. The young Africans who joined the team were essential to bringing connections between us and the places we visited. You can see them in the photos! I was able to learn about the Zimbabwe United Methodist Church structure and processes, engage with ministry leaders and find inspiration on how we can better uplift laity here in the NW District. More importantly, Zimbabwe gave me hope. The church is still moving and doing amazing things all over the world. It is that hope I wish to share with St. Andrew, we are still moving and doing wonderful things!

In our travels I visited a variety of places such as: Nyadire Mission Station, Mutoko Mudzi District, Harare & Harare Central District, Africa University, Mutare, Old Mutare Mission Station, Masvingo, Bulawayo, Hwange National Park & Victoria Falls. The scenery pictures show some of these beautiful places and some of my adventures. I enjoyed the opportunity to share some of my stories with the congregation during worship last Sunday! You can view some of the pictures from the trip HERE.
