On Saturday, March 9, St. Andrew will host a Lay Servant Academy through the Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church. You may choose one of three sessions which include the following: Introduction to Lay Servant Ministry: The Basic Course, Living Our United Methodist Beliefs, and Sacraments: Means of Grace. The sessions are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and we will be joined by members of other churches in our area. The Lay Servant Ministry: Basic Course is a good way to help you on the path to become better equipped for whatever ministry God is calling you into. Lynn Nelson, Director of Lay Servant Academy in our district, and Anita Sanford from St. Andrew, can also provide information about this and additional in-person and Zoom options for training.
 
Anita Sanford has this to say about her experience with Lay Servant Ministries: 
“I took the Basic Class a couple of years ago after I retired as a way to explore some of the ways I might be a light of compassion and hope in my community. I was asking God, 'What next?' I embraced the ideals and theology of Methodism but I was struggling to understand my place in the larger picture. The class was so much more than I expected and so my journey to seek out other classes to grow spiritually began. Many of my classes have been on Zoom and it was delightful to meet people throughout our conference and listen to their faith journey. My recent class was Loving People and Planet in God’s Name. I am now following God’s lead into Creation Justice, a topic that integrates Social Justice and becoming responsible stewards of God creation. The next class I will be taking is Living Our United Methodist Beliefs." Anita will be at the table in the Commons this Sunday if you would like to learn more about the opportunities available through Lay Servant Ministries.
